A note sent to Jeff Klein (NY State Senate)

Dear Senator Klein,

I am writing to express my hope that you continue to support efforts to reverse the damage done to our democracy by defective Supreme Court decisions such as Buckely v Valeo (money=speech) and Citizens United v FEC (corporations have the same First Amendment rights as natural persons).  The way to accomplish this is by amending the US Constitution to nullify these assaults on democracy.  As you take your place in the New York State Legislature, I urge you make this issue your top priority; everything else pales in comparison.  The NY State Legislature needs to pass a resolution calling for a Constitutional Convention to rescue government of the people, by the people, and for the people.  You are in a unique position to make this happen.  Please do not fail your fellow citizens in this incredibly important work.
Wishing you the best success in your endeavors,
Tom Capobianco

At this point, I believe we are just looking to find out what our elected officials stance is on these 2 questions.
1. Do you believe that the influence of money in politics is a problem?
2. If so, would you be open to an amendment to the constitution to fix this problem?

Here is a Template that I have used to get about 13 or the 110 state reps to respond.

Hello Representative Smith,
I sent you an email a while back, but I never received a response. I know you are a very busy person, so I will make is short. We believe this is the most important Issue of our life time and is not an issue concerning just one district of Michigan. I have already contacted my State Representative on this Issue and he has responded to me, so please do not forward this to him. All I’m looking for is your stance on these 2 questions.
1. Do you believe that the influence of money in politics is a problem?
2. If so, would you be open to an amendment to the constitution to fix this problem

It is a known Fact that 86% of all Americans believes that the influence of money in politics is a problem. I truly believe that if enough state representatives can get on the same page we can actually fix this problem. I am working with a group that is building a Nation wide alliance of state representatives who are willing to fight for this vital and quite possibly most important issue of our lifetime in the United States. What is really more important than restoring true democracy to our country?
I am asking as a citizen of Michigan and of the United States as we are trying to fix a national problem. If these credentials are not satisfactory enough for you, then I am disappointed. Our Founding Fathers wrote into the Constitution that if our federal government ever became non-responsive to the needs of the American people, we are able to go through our state legislators to amend it. We truly feel our country has reached that point and I hope you will consider speaking to me about this issue or at least learning more about what we are trying to do.
What we are about:.

I will greatly appreciate a timely answer to this vital issue,

Thank you for your time,

and if they don’t want to respond then you can tell him you are taking our founding fathers advice and going to the state legislators since it has come to the point that we can no longer trust our federal government to do what is in the best interest of the American people.
They wrote that into the constitution, not us.

and article V Where as: Alexander Hamilton, in the “final argument” of the Federalist Papers said that an Article V Amendment process was the means by which the states could reign in an out-of-control federal government:

I hope this helps
